Today was the first ten o’clock start since the clocks had been wound back. It was 5 degrees and quite nippy when 8 hardy souls met for the short journey to the Shepherds Baa at Lynford Hall near to Mundford. We split into 2 groups of 4 and took the scenic route via East Walton, Castle Acre then through Swaffham and onto Mundford. The advantages of an Autumn ride are that the traffic is generally lighter and there are no flying bugs to contend with, however grubby road conditions and a low sun can often be hazardous. Today though the roads were relatively clean and the sun was obscured so we had a very pleasant ride to our destination.
The Baa is a small alfresco wooden shack that sells various non-alcoholic beverages and savoury snacks. The café is situated in an ideal place for dog walkers, bird watchers and anyone with an interest in the countryside. Located on the edge of Lynford Arboretum and Lynford Lakes, there are great walks around and even a dog agility course. There is ample parking.
On arrival we were met by Mel and Karen and their dog Harvey. Mel went to great pains to extol the virtues of arriving in a Volvo, basically heated everything, and grudgingly I had to admit he had a point. More importantly if any of you non-motorcyclists ever want to meet up at one of our destinations drop me a line as you will be more that welcome. The company is most convivial.
After about an hour we departed to our various destinations leaving the afternoon free to get those domestic chores done and watch the football.
Here’s hoping the weather is a kind for the next one.
Stay safe
